Smart Mobility Public Diplomacy event

April 21, 2016 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

What is the Internet of Vehicles? How can data be used to make the traffic flow more smooth? Platooning of trucks, what does that mean? When can I expect my car to be driving by itself?

Welcome to the exiting new world of smart mobility!

The Dutch Embassy and the EU delegation in Beijing jointly organise an event to share the ideas behind smart mobility and highlight innovative initiatives and experiences in this field.
Inform and engage the Chinese public about (development of) smart mobility in Europe and China

21 April, 2016. 17:00-19:30
Dutch Embassy Beijing, Liangmaqiao Nanlu #4, 北京市朝阳区亮马河南路 4 号

The date is choosen to link with events taking place in Europe in April (Truck Platooning Challenge) and the visit of Dutch officals, experts and companies to Beijng to discuss further cooperation between China an the Netherlands.

The Netherlands uses its presidency of the Council of the European Union to position smart mobility high on the European political agenda. In the Netherlands this is, among other things, done by organisation of a European Truck Platooning Challenge, a conference on smart mobility and the signing of a declaration by the European ministers of transport. Meanwhile China is also developing all kinds of initiatives and activities on smart mobility and the different European countries and companies are working together with their Chinese counterparts to advance that development.

Why smart mobility
Development of smart mobility like automated and connected driving will have a huge impact on various current challenges:

  • Improving safety: 90% of the traffic accidents are caused by human error
  • Better traffic flow: if 10% of the vehicles use adaptive cruise control, traffic jams will be cut by 30%.
  • Fuel savings, reducing costs and emissions: grouping trucks into platoons decreases fuel consumption by 5 to 15% (benefits environment, reduces costs).
